Closing General Session: Fire Rescue Response to a School Bus Emergency

Presenter: Paul Hasenmeier

Description: What does every student transportation need to know (or think they already know) about how fire departments will respond to a school bus crash? Paul Hasenmeier, the Public Safety Director and Fire Chief for Hernando County in Florida, is a nationally recognized expert on incident management and fire safety. He will share best practices from his recent book “School Bus Extrication,” proper on-scene incident management depending on the emergency, and the importance of school district partnerships with their local fire professionals. This closing seminar will also cover what to do in the event of downed power lines, how different weather conditions affect rescue, and the how electric school buses complicate the response to fires. Attendees will be prepared to return home and engage their local fire departments for planning training exercises.
