Closing General Session: Evacuating a School Bus in an Emergency

Presenter: Paul Hasenmeier

Description: What does every student transportation need to know (or think they already know) about how fire departments will respond to a school bus crash? Paul Hasenmeier, the public safety director and fire chief for Hernando County in Florida, is a nationally recognized expert on incident management and fire safety. After a short presentation, he will lead attendees outside, where they will participate in real-life evacuations of school buses filled with non-toxic theater smoke to mimic conditions of an onboard fire. Attendees will be prepared to return home and engage their local fire departments for planning training exercises. Liability release forms are required of attendees before participation.
