Developed by school bus maintenance and inspection expert Marshall Casey, STN EXPO offers the National School Bus Inspection Training Program to fully train technicians on how to conduct regular vehicle inspections,\u00a0above and beyond\u00a0state or federal Department of Transportation guidance. The program is derived from best practices used in overseeing the maintenance of school buses in South Carolina, the only completely owned and operated state fleet in the nation. Attendees will learn how to discover more defects prior to failure, which allows for expedited repairs, increased vehicle uptime, and a more efficient maintenance program. Friday\u2019s agenda includes eight hours of classroom instruction\u00a0followed by a\u00a0written exam,\u00a0in preparation for a\u00a0second day of hands-on identification planned for defects on real school buses and follow-up training by school bus manufacturers, hosted by\u202fCharlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Description<\/strong>: Transportation runs on wheels and money. The funding received by transportation operations are under threat from all sides. Federal funding is both uncertain and at best static. State funds are competing with a broad array of other programs and at least 23 states have indicated funding cuts. Local funding is being pressured as property tax revenues and other sources come under threat from legislation and activism. What is a humble transportation director to do? We will focus on understanding the sources of funds and the uncertainty associated with them and how to manage these challenges operationally.<\/p>\n

Description<\/strong>: The business of education has gotten increasingly complicated in the past 5 years and that feels like nothing compared to what is going to happen in the next 5 years. How are transportation operations going to adapt to an environment with more choice, fewer people, fewer resources, and continued uncertainty? Description<\/strong>: The Child Passenger Safety on School Buses National Training provides an overview of the use of child safety restraint systems on school buses, with a focus on pre-school aged children and children with disabilities. Instructional videos are incorporated throughout the training. Participants are provided time for hands-on practice with guidance from skilled staff members. Nationally certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will earn 3.5 <\/strong>continuing education units (CEUs) for course completion.<\/p>\n
